Brian Muir is best known for creating the helmet and armor of the most iconic movie villain in history - Darth Vader in Star Wars. Working from the incredible concept work by Ralph McQuarrie, he also worked on Stormtrooper armor, the Death Star Droid, CZ-4 and C-3PO.

Other notable works include the Space Jockey from Alien, The Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones and the Ministry of Magic decor in the Harry Potter movies.

Brian started out as an apprentice at Elstree Studios but had gone off to work for an architectural company before being asked back there in 1976 to work on Star Wars. At the time he and most of the production team had no idea of how successful and culturally significant this movie would be. It was a bold move to quit a secure job to go back into film-making but it paid off well for him.

After Star Wars, Brian continued to work in film and still does to this day, with credits on many major motion pictures from the past 48 years.

He joins Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine), Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Ken Colley (Admiral Piett), Daniel Logan (Young Boba Fett) and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) in our 40 Years of Star Wars panel on the Saturday.

"Initially I was told it was six weeks work and took the risk of leaving a secure job to be back to work I loved. Little did I know of it’s significance!"
